Smacked Arse Comedy at The Yorkshire Rock ‘n’ Bike Show 2011
Saturday August 13th 2011

words by Rick Hulse

Following the huge response to the Smacked Arse Comedy Show at the 2010 Yorkshire Rock & Bike Show, the Satan’s Slaves MC have invited me back to their 2011show to entertain folks with a whole new comedy show featuring a fresh line-up of comedy gods. I must say I’m looking forward to it immensely. The atmosphere at the 2010 Yorkshire Rock & Bike Show was fantastic and the hospitality was faultless.
The Yorkshire Rock ‘n’ Bike Show, at Squires Café Bar, Newthorpe, near Leeds in West Yorkshire, has been making quite a name for itself over the last few years as a high-quality event with a great party atmosphere and a fine array of live music. The addition of a stand-up comedy show in 2010 proved to be a huge success and reflected very well the organisers commitment to continually striving to improve an already excellent rally
The Smacked Arse Comedy Show is set to run from 4:00pm – 7:00pm on Saturday August 13th inside Squires Café Bar. The show will feature three top UK stand-up comedians with myself as host and compere.
As an added bonus one of Britain’s most promising newcomers (or in this case a most welcome returnee to the scene) will be adding a further dimension to the show in the form of a short set in the new Smacked Arse Comedy “Search for a Star” series, which will be running throughout 2011.

The fresh-smelling and lovingly handpicked comedic genii performing in this brand new Smacked Arse Comedy Show will be:

STEVE SHANYASKI(Headline Act):

Born in Coleraine, Northern Ireland into a circus family, Martin had an early career as a juggler, unicyclist, knife thrower, fire-eater, magician, and photographic model.
Steve walked out on a mind numbing office job and straight onto a comedy stage in the beginning of 2003, and has not looked back since. Within half a year of his comedic birth he had made it through to the semi-finals of the BBC New Comedian of the Year, the North West Comedian of the Year Final, and later that year he had the honour of appearing on the BBC7 Radio Showcase “Spanking New”. Since then he has added to his list of accolades by being named the Holsten Pils Comedian of the Year 2005, and the Birmingham Comedy Festival’s best breaking talent 2005.
A very charismatic and silly performer with a natural talent for spinning yarns, a fertile imagination, and a skilled musical background, his act combines as many elements as Steve can muster. A bucket-load of charm and some surreal and silly material coupled with his brilliant comedy songs make Steve the ideal booking for any show. Steve performed at one of Rick Hulse’s “Smacked Arse” Comedy gigs in Stockport in November 2006 and was immediately booked for Rick’s ‘Frog & Bucket Comedy Club Roadshow’ at You’ve Been Nabbed 16 in 2007. Since then he has also performed in Smacked Arse comedy shows at The Welsh National Motorcycle Show 2007 and The Yorkshire Pudding rally 2008 and the Any Spare Change Rally in 2009. In addition to being in great demand on the comedy-club circuit, Steve has recently performed on the TV in “Comedy Rocks” with Jason Manford.

"The key to his act is that his vision is a delightfully skewed one." – Manchester Online
“Absolutely Stormed it!” – The Mail
“A star in the making” – City Life
“LOL’ing all over him” – Sarah Cox, Radio 1
"A very very funny man” – Rob Ellis, Capital FM
“His musical salute to Chav’s and Scallies is pure genius.” – Rick Hule

JUNIOR SIMPSON:

With his infectious energy and huge stage presence it is easy to see why Junior Simpson is a comedy-circuit favourite with his boundless joy and exuberance that has audiences hooked with hilarity. A true observational comic, he finds his humour in the everyday and humdrum with anecdotes of his world travels as a comedian adding a personal originality to his set. Although mischievous and daring, he is never crass or crude.
Junior Simpson is a regular headliner at clubs all over the UK and is also in great demand internationally, performing as far afield as South Africa and Australia.
He is also a regular contributor to The Cutting Edge Team at the Comedy Store.
This will be Junior’s first performance in a Smacked-Arse Comedy Show.

“My highlight was Junior Simpson. A vigorous raconteur and vibrant mimic with lots to say. Watch that Man!” – The Guardian
“The new Lenny Henry” – The Times
“His material is excellent” – Daily Mail
“Simpson's irresistible energy and evangelical delivery can engage the most jaded of rooms” – Chortle

DAVE LONGLEY:

Cutting edge comedy from this relative newcomer is making massive waves on the UK comedy circuit. His thought provoking, yet accessible material and style takes tricky issues to any audience. He also does knob gags.
He is always unpredictable and often manic to the point of insanity, but as he manages both aspects of his twisted persona to such good comedic effect he can be readily forgiven for being a complete and utter Fruit Bat.
Dave hails from Derby and his first appearance before an audience of bikers was in Rick Hulse’s ‘Frog & Bucket Comedy Club Roadshow’ at You’ve Been Nabbed 15 in May 2006 where his unique analogous views on life had 2,000 people laughing their tits off within minutes.
Dave has performed in a number of Smacked Arse comedy shows since then including the Any Spare Change rally and the Spat Out of Hull rally.

"There's a lot of stuff Dave does that I wish I'd written." – Ed Byrne
"Highly original and bloody funny.” – Three Weeks
"Clever and funny" – Gill Isles, BBC Comedy Unit
"Dave seems to be actually driven by the material and, say it quietly, the art... challenges both himself and the audience. AND HE IS FUNNY" – Baby Cow
"A quality bit of comedy club gold." – BBC Lincoln

The Smacked Arse Comedy “Search for a Star” spot:
STEFFEN PEDDIE:

Returning to stand up after a eight-year break as a professional wrestler has found Steffen a little older, wiser and bigger than before, but still ready to find the lighter side of any subject or audience member thrown at him.
England. An original member of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne’s "Near The Knuckle" team with such luminaries as Anvil Springstein, Vladamir McTavish, Gavin Webster and Ross Noble, he brings a different approach to whatever venue he performs at.
With Ross Noble, the two wrote and performed sketches on ITV’s children’s Saturday Morning show ‘Gimme 5’ for a season as well as doing a health and fitness show called ‘Burst!’ for ITV he was also involved in numerous regional shows in the North East.
Now back doing stand up he is one of the regular comperes at the ‘Funny Bones’ chain of clubs in the North East as well as getting booked as either a stand-up slot or as MC in other clubs. He is the world’s first Fat Mime artist and has recently won the Literature North East’s "New Word Order Slam".

"A fresh emerging Geordie talent" – Metro Newspaper
"He holds the audience's attention throughout and leaves the stage with me wanting more" – BBC Tees' Karen Slater
"One of the North East's best comedy comperes" – Newcastle Evening Chronicle
"Steffen Peddie, the worlds Greatest Comedian, Wrestler, Scout Leader and fantasist of his generation" – Anvil Springstein

Rick Hulse (Host & Compere):

Rick Hulse's comedy style is brash, uncompromising and down-to-earth. Though the language can be somewhat raw, his insights into the world of, dieting, drugs, marriage, sex, and motorcycling never fail to entertain.
Having a twisted philosophical view on just about any subject, from ranting against life’s inequalities to musing on the design of human genitalia, makes for an unpredictable show.
His long involvement in the biking scene, seventeen years as the Chairman of the NABD and thirteen years of writing comic fiction and manic articles under such names as Professor Pierre O’Bollox, M Phetamine and Shirley Crabtree, together with his off-hand Mancunian manner have made him a firm favourite in hosting bikers parties and rallies.
If you are looking for political correctness bring a microscope. Rick’s acerbic Mancunian wit bulldozes its way through life, the universe and everything (everything age, sex, motorcycle or alcohol related anyway).

“Rick Hulse once again had the crowd in hysterics” – BSH Magazine
“Despite the scary appearance, Rick Hulse proved to be an affable chap with a wry wit” – Manchester Evening News
“If you haven’t been to one of Rick Hulse’s – ‘Smacked Arse’ comedy shows yet, you really should; but be warned, the laughter can leave your face and ribs really aching.” – Barbara Rossa (BSH Magazine)
